  • General Introduction

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) - Capacity Development and Innovations Office (CDIO) links all existing and emerging supply and demand that relate to capacity development for the meaningful and efficacious implementation of the Convention, for all concerned directly or otherwise with the UNCCD process. The creation of the necessary capacities for all stakeholders is an essential element in realising the objectives of the CDIO.

The CDIO realises its objectives in many ways, including developing e-learning courses as well as other capacity building products and processes. The UNCCD E-learning platform and Capacity Building Marketplace (CBM) are products of the CDIO. They offer opportunities for direct stakeholders, students, professionals and the public at large to increase their knowledge and capacities, thereby facilitating their more informed and effective involvement in the UNCCD implementation and the Sustainable Development process as a whole. These digital platforms are also focused on helping users to translate their acquired knowledge into effective actions.

This e-learning course, ‘DROUGHT AND YOU’ has been developed to provide participants with substantive knowledge on droughts, their impacts and possible solutions.
